Norman has a natural gift for his native Malaysian food, being self taught and mentored in his skills by his late mother who was well known for her cooking in his home town of Butterworth in Penang, Malaysia.

He is a former Manchester Chef of the Year finalist, Race Chef for the Lotus Racing Formula One™ team and a member of the Prestige Magazine Malaysia’s Top 40 Under 40 List 2010.

Norman has featured on MasterChef and has hosted his own TV cooking series in 2011.

2011 proved to be another big year for Norman, with his first TV show, UK tour, appearance on MasterChef Malaysia and a new restaurant opening.

He has featured on UK and Malaysian TV, conducts live cooking demonstrations at food festivals and events, written his own book Malaysian Food and leads Malaysian cookery classes and team-building events at his restaurant’s cookery school.

His ambition is to be the Malaysian face of Malaysian food around the world.

Norman has successfully shaped Ning into a critically acclaimed restaurant since opening its doors in December 2006. Ning was a Manchester Restaurant of the Year finalist at the Manchester Food & Drink Festival Awards 2009.

2010 was the defining year for Norman on TV and with Formula One.

Early in the year he was featured on a run of Malaysian and UK TV shows, including Market Kitchen on BBC Good Food Channel with celebrity cook Rachel Allen.

He was subsequently appointed as Race Chef to the Lotus Racing team, serving Malaysian food at 12 races of the 2010 Formula One™ season. During this time he cooked for the drivers, crew and VIPs including Nicole Sherzinger and HRH Prince Andrew.

His self-published book has already sold 4,000 worldwide with a third print run in 2011.

In April, he launched the Malaysian edition of his book in Kuala Lumpur, and in May he joined Gordon Ramsay filming in Malaysia for his Great Escapes series to be screened in May 2011.

He appeared at food festivals, including Taste of London where he met Rick Stein and conducted cooking demonstrations that drew a large crowd. His book signing and media tour of Malaysia in September generated further interest.

Norman continues to passionately and energetically promote Malaysian food back in the UK, through his involvement in the Malaysia Kitchen campaign, his cookery school, food festival appearances and leading new research into Malaysia's culinary heritage.

The Malaysian Government-backed campaign aims to raise awareness of Malaysian food, and Norman was a highlight at Selfridges food hall in Manchester Trafford Centre and through his own tour of Wing Yip oriental superstores across the country.

His book, which was first published by Ning in the UK in 2009, sold out of its first print run and has been well-received by both the media and cooking enthusiasts alike.

Norman continues to host regular cookery and master classes which give him the opportunity to demonstrate his passion for this largely under-represented cuisine in the UK. Norman has taught over 1000 students, and now runs popular team-building and corporate events too.

2011 was another busy year as he toured the UK & Ireland and initiates exciting projects in Malaysia. WATCH HIS REVIEW OF THE YEAR 2011!
