Example Itinerary for a Cook Malaysia! Evening Event at Ning

6pm Welcome and introduction

6.30pm In 3 teams of 5-7 people each, guests rotate around the following hands-on cookery demonstration (each lasting approximately half an hour):

Activity 1: Ayam Gulai (in kitchen) Head Chef/owner, Norman Musa, tutors guests in the creation of a classic Malay curry – fiery, coconut-milk laced, spice-infused chicken. Guests get to work in the Ning kitchen and learn about typical Malaysian ingredients and cooking techniques.

Activity 2: Roti Jala (in dining area) Guests get to learn the art of Malaysian lace-shaped savoury pancakes – the perfect accompaniment to their curry. Led by one of our visiting Malay tutors, guests can show off their creativity and skill whilst learning a little more about Malaysia and its culinary heritage.

Activity 3: Ketayap (in dining area) Malaysians love their sweet things! Here guests will create a delicious, coconut and palm sugar dessert to round off the spiciness of their curry creations. Led by one of our visiting Malay tutors, guests will hear more about Malaysian fruits, sweets and drinks.

8.00pm Guests return to the dining area.

Whilst staff complete preparations for the meal (including an additional curry and wok-fried noodles or rice), our Head Chef will demonstrate the theatre of creating the Malaysian national drink, Teh Tarik, a sweetened Indian-style tea that involves high pouring to froth it up. Guests wanting to show-off their skills will be invited to have a go and partake in the tea!

8.30pm Dinner (including guests’ creations) will be served À la carte style at tables

10pm Guests conclude their evening at Ning and we provide Malaysian goody bag (including more information on Malaysia and Malaysian cooking) will be given to every guest on leaving
